East Cheshire NHS Charity’s annual pancake race was declared a flippin’ success as crowds flocked to enjoy the Shrove Tuesday fun in Macclesfield town centre.
Over 20 teams took on the challenge of flipping a pancake up and down a short course between the Town Hall and Mill Street, with the event raising over £650 for East Cheshire NHS Trust’s charity.
Granada Reports’ star Paul Crone compered the event which included staff from East Cheshire NHS Trust and teams from Macclesfield Town Council, Carefound Home Care, Cinemac Macclesfield, Reach Out and Recover, Specsavers Macclesfield and LoveLive Graphics.
‘Flippin’ Fantastic’ from Reach out and Recover (ROAR) Macclesfield were the winning team and following their victory they said: “It was just a case of running faster than the other teams, flipping the pancake and making it back first, the practice obviously paid off. We’ll be back to defend our title next year!”
Supported by local radio station Cheshire's Silk Radio, Macclesfield Town Council and the Rotary Club Macclesfield, the race has gone from strength to strength over the years with new teams joining in with what has become a legendary challenge!
There were many prizes up for grabs, including an award for best fancy dress which was won by Cinemac who looked fantastic in their dinosaur costumes.
Chair of East Cheshire NHS Trust, Aislinn O’Dwyer was also among the many people who attended the event and said:
“It was great to welcome our pancake day race to the streets of Macclesfield.
“It’s not only a fabulous fundraiser but brilliant to bring our communities together and raise awareness of our charity along the way. Thank you to everyone who got involved and helped make the day such a success.”
