Knitted in Knutsford knits poppies for Knutsford Market Hall

A local knitting group has been busy knitting 400 poppies for a display in Knutsford Market Hall ahead of Remembrance Sunday.

Knitted in Knutsford was set up 7 years ago by Knutsford resident Val Pallister when a friend asked her to make a ‘twiddle’ aid for her mother who was suffering from dementia.  This led to Val knitting items for East Cheshire Hospice and Knitted in Knutsford was born. The group now meets every Monday afternoon from 1pm, in Dexter & Jones and all are welcome, whatever, your knitting ability. 

Val said, “We’ve really enjoyed knitting these poppies.  We love meeting every Monday not only for the knitting but the social side and Dexters is such a lovely place to meet to.  If you wish to join us or want to find out more, please just pop along”

The idea for the display came from market hall trader and ex-serviceman Ian Drinkwater.  A display to add poignancy in the market hall leading up to Remembrance Day.  Over 400 poppies have been knitted by the group   

Sandra Curties, Knutsford Town Council’s Town Centre and Marketing Officer said, “This was such a lovely idea of Ian’s and the Knitted in Knutsford group have really excelled themselves over the past few months. We will make use of the poppies each year.  We will be holding a minute’s silence on Thursday 11^th November at 11am and invite customers to join us.”

Knutsford Market Hall is open on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 8am to 4pm and is home to and is home to Jonty’s Fruit and Veg, The Market Café, Style Loft Boutique, Slipped Discs, Plastic Free Weigh, The Market Butcher, Morgan Edwards, Greeting Cards and Balloons of Knutsford and Deliveroot
