Whilst school has been ‘out’ since July for the summer holidays, pupils in Prep 6 at Wilmslow Prep were back in class for two weeks in August to attend summer booster classes in Maths and English.
The summer booster sessions were the idea of new Headteacher, Mr Bradley Lavagna-Slater. He was keen to ensure that September’s Prep 6 pupils, going into their final year at the School, returned focused and ready for final preparations for their senior school entry exams.
Speaking about the sessions, which covered maths, verbal and non-verbal reasoning, Mr Lavagna-Slater said, “Our Prep 6 pupils are coming into a really important term; the last before they sit their entrance exams.
“The pupils did remarkably well during lockdown, engaging with their teachers and classmates via Zoom on a daily basis. Although Prep 5 pupils returned to normal classes at School in June, we didn’t want to leave anything to chance and developed our summer booster sessions accordingly.”
Mr Lavagna-Slater takes up his position as Wilmslow Prep’s Headteacher in September when he will welcome pupils from all year groups back to a Covid-19 compliant school environment. Speaking about this he said, “I am very much looking forward to the start of term and getting to know all the pupils and their families. This certainly hasn’t been a normal transition. I would, in more normal times, have met up with parents last term but that clearly wasn’t possible.
“I am really proud to be taking over at this fantastic School and cannot wait for term to start. The staff worked really hard during lockdown and were able to swiftly transition learning to an online environment. Pupils returned into their bubbles at the end of term and we are looking forward to welcoming all families back in a couple of weeks’ time.”
