Three men have been arrested on suspicion of theft after officers from Cheshire Police’s Roads and Crime Unit stopped a suspicious van in Sandbach.
At around 10.45am on Thursday 27 July, police received reports that a delivery lorry had been broken into by two men at a service station on Victoria Avenue, Crewe.
The lorry is then reported to have driven off, followed by a white van.
The lorry was soon located. Following this, RCU officers spotted a suspicious van, believed to be on false plates, and stopped it in Sandbach.
The driver was detained, while two men were pursued on foot and detained near to junction 17 of the M6.
A 22-year-old man from Blackburn was arrested on suspicion of theft from a motor vehicle, fraudulently using a registration mark/document, and driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence.
A 24-year-old man from Oxford and a 31-year-old man from Oxford were arrested on suspicion of theft.
All three men have since been released on bail.
Inspector Anton Sullivan from the RCU said:
“This was a great example of teamwork across the force to locate the suspects.
“These arrests send out a strong message that RCU officers will do everything we can to stop those believed to be involved in criminality from using our county’s roads.”
