Christmas is a busy enough time without having to remember any changes to your bin collections as well – and the Council’s online bin checker means you don’t have to!
All you need to do to find out about any changes over the festive period is enter your postcode on the ‘find your bin day’ page on the Council’s website.
There are no collections of general waste or recycling on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day and food and garden waste collections (brown bin) are suspended for two weeks from 22 December until 8 January.
Councillor Charlotte Atkins, Cabinet Member for Services at the Council, said:
“Like many other people, our hard-working crews at AES will be enjoying the upcoming seasonal bank holidays so collections due on those days have been re-arranged.
“If you’re affected by these changes, it’s really easy to check when your bins will collected via the Council’s website – just enter your postcode and the details will be displayed.
“The website also has information about what to put in your bins if you need a reminder so you can check which seasonal items we accept on our collections and do please keep using your brown bin ready for collections to start again in the new year.”
Anyone who can’t get online can either call the contact centre on 0345 605 3014, use the iPads available for public use in the reception area at Moorlands House, or visit the Council’s reception areas in Biddulph, Cheadle and Leek to speak to customer service advisors. Receptions will be closed 25 to 29 December and on New Year’s Day.
Christmas cards and envelopes can be recycled unless they feature glitter and foil and wrapping paper that stays scrunched is also accepted.
Real Christmas trees that don’t exceed 6 feet in height, and have had their decorations and bases removed, will be collected from 8 January to 2 February if cut up and placed in the bin or left at the side of it.
