Age UK Cheshire East is making an urgent appeal for help in its bid to support local older people, at this incredibly difficult time, as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak.
The Charity has been impressed by the mobilisation of groups across the area who stand ready to support older people and are now in the process of preparing a comprehensive list of groups in the local area,
Chief Executive, Damon Taylor is making a plea for these groups to notify their Macclesfield Head Office on 01625 612958 once they are ready to act, so they can target help at the older people who need it most.
As well as seeking local groups to work alongside it, Age UK Cheshire East are also asking concerned older people, their friends and relatives to let them know about their concerns so that additional support for those individuals can be put in place. This could involve a weekly call by telephone to check up on their welfare, delivery of urgent supplies, or assistance with any other practical query the older person may have.
The charity’s Information and Advice service remains in a position to offer quick and practical guidance and support to older people who may require it.
As a local charity, Age UK Cheshire East receives no external funding and relies solely on income from their shops and other services to enable them to support older people.
Damon Taylor says “Unfortunately, we have had to take the very difficult decision to close some of our services for older people as a result of this outbreak. Now more than ever, we need any support that people can give us to enable us to carry on our vital work; that could involve volunteering in one of our shops, making phone calls to those self-isolating, or making a financial donation to support our work.
Our older people need us now more than ever, and without wider community support, we will no longer be able to function. We are thrilled to have the support of a number of firms and individuals at this critical time and would urge local companies who can offer supplies or practical help and solutions to give us a call.”
The Charity’s plans to support older people at this difficult time are constantly being updated and will be posted on its website, and through its Twitter and Facebook accounts.
