Would you like a new volunteering challenge? Would you like to check on the welfare of our four-legged colleagues?
We have spaces for people to join our Police Dog Welfare Visitor Scheme.
Police Dog Welfare Visitors observe, comment and report on the conditions in which the working dogs are housed, trained and transported.
In addition, Police Dog Welfare Visitors will be required to:
-
Attend programmed training days for police dogs and handlers held at various venues throughout Cheshire and North Wales.
-
Inspect the police dog kennels.
-
Inspect police vehicles used to transport police dogs to ensure they are fit for purpose.
The police dogs are often the unsung heroes of the policing service, and they perform an absolutely vital role. It’s important that Cheshire Constabulary and North Wales Police are transparent, and the general public has confidence that the dogs are properly cared for and trained well.
It is important we have independent checks and controls in place to ensure good animal welfare standards are robustly maintained. The Commissioners are committed to ensure that police dogs are happy and well cared for.
Although training will be provided to successful applicants, experience or understanding of working with animals and a basic knowledge of animal welfare is desirable.
