Collapse of a wall in Macclesfield.
Fire crews have responded to reports of a collapsed wall near the Old Millstone at Waters Green. Three fire engines from Macclesfield, Bollington and Poynton
The wall, measuring around 6ft in height and 3m long, crumbled into a public walkway at the rear of the pub. Firefighters are using shovels and their hands to excavate the rubble, while others monitor the surrounding buildings for structural stability. They are also shoring up loose earth and debris.
It is not thought that anyone is trapped under the rubble, though this is still to be confirmed at the time of writing. Crews have requested specialist equipment to help them establish this.
Nearby buildings have been evacuated as a precaution, and a cordon has been set-up in the immediate area of the incident.
Specialist equipment were used and a search and rescue dog deployed to the incident, and thankfully no casualties were found.
Crews continued to work throughout the afternoon excavating soil and rubble, and they worked with a demolition company to stabilise the surrounding structure.
The excavation was completed by around 4.45pm, and command of the incident was passed to Cheshire East Council, who remained at the scene to continue shoring up the remaining sections of the wall.
Firefighters finally left the scene at 5pm.
