Cheshire West and Chester Council has announced that Winsford Market will reopen as usual on Thursday 15 February following the temporary closure of the market for repairs to the electrical systems.
The Market was closed on Saturday and Monday whilst the necessary works were carried out to make the building safe for traders and visitors after damage from heavy rain caused issues with the electrical system. The Market was closed to comply with health and safety requirements by the contract team acting on behalf of Cheshire West and Cheshire Council.
Winsford Market is in the heart of the town centre with local businesses offering a diverse choice of products and services, as well as the expertise of independent traders.
Cllr Nathan Pardoe, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Economy, Regeneration and Digital Transformation, said:
“I am pleased to say that Winsford Market will reopen on its next usual trading day on Thursday 15 February. I would like to thank traders and visitors for their understanding during the temporary closure, and Council staff for prioritising the repairs and supporting traders throughout. Traders have already been made aware that they will not have to pay rent for the two days of trading which were disrupted.
“Winsford Market is a key part of the town’s tradition and is embedded in the local community. However, both I and the Council are fully aware that Winsford needs a better market offer to help our independent traders to thrive and to attract new visitors.
“As more and more people shop online, town centres across the country have to offer more than retail. It’s why the Council is making the biggest investment in Winsford town centre since the 1960s, and why improving Winsford’s market offer will be an important part of ongoing works.”
Winsford Market is open Monday, Thursday and Saturday, 9am to 4pm (except Bank Holidays).
