Collection rounds are operational today for scheduled black bin (refuse) and recycling collections as normal, except black bin collections in Disley and Poynton areas.
There are also crews working on refuse collections missed due to adverse weather on Monday (05/01/26), but we are unable to return to the following areas today: Haslington, Nantwich, Audlem, Stapeley, Shavington and Wybunbury.
While we may not be able to complete all scheduled collections and missed collections we are working hard to get as many bins emptied as possible.
Our crews have had no further collection disruption due to Storm Goretti.
At this time of year we see an increase in the volume of refuse and recycling to be collected. This is in addition to the volume of missed collections earlier in the week due to adverse weather conditions.
Any non-completed rounds or missed bins are logged on our system and we aim to return to collect as soon as we are able to complete the catch-up collections from the festive season.
We will continue to update residents, thank you for your understanding and patience.
Roads:
Our crews were out throughout the night responding to the impacts of Storm Goretti.
Today, the routes to the high east of the borough (including the Cat and Fiddle area) will be treated from 4pm and again at 2am.
The routes to the east and south of the borough will be treated from 6pm.
All routes will be monitored throughout the forecast period.
Please remember that not all roads in the borough are gritted. In line with national guidance, our routes are prioritised based on risk.
This means we focus on key roads, bus routes, and access to essential services such as hospitals and schools, ensuring our resources are used where they have the greatest impact.
Although we cannot treat every road, our gritting network covers 678 miles (1,091km) – around 40% of Cheshire East’s entire road network.
Our gritters use computer‑controlled salt spreading systems and only spread salt where required. If you see a gritter travelling but not spreading, it is likely making its way to the start of a route or returning to the depot to refill.
All Cheshire East Council maintained grit bins across the borough are filled as part of our pre‑season preparations. They may be refilled once more if there is a prolonged period of severe winter weather and resources allow, but they are not topped up on an ad‑hoc basis.
Please only travel if necessary. If you do need to travel, take extra care – particularly on untreated roads.
More information about our gritting routes.

All libraries are open as normal.
