Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Northwich Town Council have announced that a medium-term solution to improve parking at Victoria Infirmary in Northwich has been agreed in principle, while long-term parking options are still being explored.
We know that parking at the site has been a longstanding concern, and we are grateful to the local community for their ongoing feedback and patience, particularly during the development of the £22million new surgical hub on the site.
We have been working behind the scenes to come up with a suitable solution that not only meets the needs of the Victoria Infirmary site but also the local community and residents living close to the hospital.
As part of the solution, the two organisations are planning to develop an area of Verdin Park to provide 50 dedicated staff parking spaces for hospital use from Monday to Friday. These spaces will then be made available to the public on weekends free of charge, helping to ease parking pressures across the site.
Detailed plans are currently being developed which will be available to the community to view before being submitted to Cheshire West and Chester Council.
The proposed development is subject to planning permission, with work anticipated to begin this summer and completion targeted for the autumn.
Russ Favager, the Trust’s Board Senior Responsible Officer for the Leighton New Hospital Programme and Estates Redevelopment, commented:
"These improvements represent a significant step in enhancing parking for both staff and visitors. We appreciate the patience and understanding of all parties involved as we continue to work towards long-term parking solutions at Victoria Infirmary, Northwich."
Northwich Town Mayor Cllr Kate Cernik agreed:
"We recognise that parking may become a challenge once the new surgical hub is fully operational. That’s why we’ve been actively exploring a range of solutions to ease potential congestion. One such option involves using a small section of Verdin Park to create additional parking. This would help ensure that patients can access this fantastic new facility without the added stress of searching for a parking space during their visit.”
