Here's the latest update from the leader and deputy leader of Cheshire East Council...
LGA Conference
Early July took us to the LGA Conference in Liverpool. As the national membership body for local authorities, the LGA strengthens local government to help communities thrive. The conference provided a platform to champion local government, ensuring it has the necessary resources, powers, and support to deliver optimal outcomes while promoting innovation. It was a fantastic opportunity to share knowledge and positivity with representatives from other local authorities.
'The Great North'
In our journey towards devolution, the leader of the council was invited to join 'The Great North' Leadership Board on behalf of Cheshire and Warrington, acknowledging our region's vital role in the northern story. This being the first meeting of the board, we are involved from inception and have ‘a seat at the table’ for future work and objectives.
Cheshire East Youth Council
We attended the July meeting of the Cheshire East Youth Council, where young people campaign for positive change. They collaborate with decision-makers to improve services and support for children and young people. The group, which feeds into the Children's Trust Board, focuses on issues important to young people. The meeting featured a fantastic debate and Q&A session, bringing fresh and inspirational ideas. Devolution offers many benefits for our young people, and we discussed our vision for Cheshire and Warrington's future, covering topics like training, skills, transport, jobs, businesses, and homes. Many thanks to all who attended, providing vital feedback.
Macclesfield Partnership
The leader attended this partnership meeting and briefed local organisations on devolution and heard about their work to support some of the town’s most vulnerable communities.
Cheshire Film Office
Marketing Cheshire has been working with local councils and private partners to establish the Cheshire Film Office, aiming to attract more TV and film productions to the region. The deputy leader attended a recent event to support this initiative, which seeks to promote economic and long-term tourism benefits and increase income potential for Cheshire East Council by renting land and property for filming. The event aimed to raise awareness among partners, local authorities, and industry professionals, building momentum for the Film Office's success.
Thank you once again for your support and continued commitment to helping make Cheshire East a thriving community.
