Congleton Town Hall was a scene of splendour and goodwill as over 160 guests gathered for the Congleton Town Mayor’s Charity Ball, hosted by Town Mayor, Cllr Rob Moreton, and his Mayoress Helen Moreton.
The event, a sell-out success, brought together civic dignitaries, town councillors, esteemed guests, and community members, all dressed to impress in their finest attire.
As tradition dictated, guests rose to their feet in honour as civic dignitaries were announced into the Grand Hall. Among the distinguished lineup were the High Sheriff of Cheshire, Clare Hayward, Fiona Bruce MP, Mayor of Cheshire East, Cllr. Rod Fletcher, along with town mayors from Alsager, Biddulph, Middlewich, and Staffordshire Moorlands. A special round of applause echoed through the hall for Congleton Town Mayor, Cllr Rob Moreton, and Mayoress Helen Moreton as they made their grand entrance.
The evening’s festivities included a delicious three-course meal prepared by Mark’s Events and an exhilarating raffle boasting over 20 fantastic prizes, generously contributed by local companies and individuals. Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of guests, the raffle raised an impressive £1515 in support of the town mayor’s chosen charities – Vale Juniors Kickabout and Visyon. Matthew Byrom from Vale Juniors paid thanks to the mayor for his fundraising and spoke passionately about the vital work of Vale Juniors Kickabout for the youngsters attending their free of charge weekly football sessions.
Town Mayor, Cllr Rob Moreton, delivered a heartwarming speech reflecting on his term in office, Cllr Moreton said:
“It has been an absolute honour and privilege to serve as town mayor. It has been a truly memorable year for me, I have met some fantastic people, and I would like to thank everyone for their support. I’m truly overwhelmed with the kindness in the room tonight, I deeply appreciate everyone who has purchased a ticket and contributed to the raffle all for local causes close to my heart. It has been a wonderful evening filled with celebration, camaraderie, and community spirit.”
Cllr Suzie Akers Smith took the stage to thank Cllr Moreton for his unwavering commitment to the town and for championing local causes and initiatives. Acknowledgments were extended to Cllr Mark Edwardson for his exceptional role as Master of Ceremonies, guiding the evening with finesse and charm. The evening reached its crescendo as 'The Sound Party' took to the stage, treating guests to a lively repertoire of 80s and 90s hits ensuring the dancefloor was filled throughout the night.
Cllr Rob Moreton will be town mayor until 16 May 2024, when Congleton Town Councillors will elect a new mayor for 2024/25.
Vale Juniors Kickabout provides a wonderful opportunity for children of all ages to participate in weekly football sessions free of charge. With over 60 enthusiastic youngsters attending twice a week and a growing waiting list, it's evident that there's a strong demand for this inclusive initiative. The sessions offer a safe and structured environment for children who may not be affiliated with a football club to enjoy the game and develop their skills.
Visyon is a charity that supports the emotional health of children, young people, and their families in Cheshire East. Visyon offers invaluable support for young individuals striving to enhance their mental well-being, empowering them to navigate life's challenges with resilience and confidence. Parents, grandparents, and careers can also gain essential skills to effectively support the children in their care.
