The RSPCA is trying to find the owner of a Jack Russell terrier whose dead body was found wrapped in a sheet and dumped in Nantwich, Cheshire.
The animal welfare charity was called to a layby off Pool Hill Road on Sunday afternoon (20 December) after a member of the public found the black and white, adult Jack Russell terrier wrapped in a grey and white checkered sheet.
RSPCA inspector Nadine Pengilly is keen to find the entire male dog’s owner. She said: “He was in good body condition and had no obvious injuries or signs of trauma so I don’t believe he’s been hit by a car.
“A vet examined the body and carried out x-rays but couldn’t find any obvious cause of death so I don’t suspect any suspicious circumstances around how he died.
“He’s been wrapped up in a sheet and dumped here deliberately so there’s a possibility he died of natural causes and his owners weren’t sure how to dispose of him correctly or couldn’t afford to do so.
“Unfortunately he wasn’t microchipped so we’ve not been able to trace an owner yet and I’m concerned there may be a family out there looking for him so I’d like to try to help him find his way home.”
If you recognise the terrier, please contact the RSPCA’s appeal line on 0300 123 8018.
