Eight-year-old Joseph is proving you’re never too young to make a difference by running 90km over three months to raise vital funds for the Children’s Ward at Macclesfield Hospital.
Since starting his challenge on 1st April, Joseph has been motivated by the simple goal of creating a more comfortable and welcoming environment for children staying at his local hospital.
Joseph is already a familiar face at the local Junior Park Run, where he first shared his ambitious goal. Since then, the local running community has rallied behind him, offering cheers and sponsorship to keep his momentum going.
He said:
“I am raising money for the Children’s Ward because it is a kind thing to do.
"I want to make the children’s area nicer for them when they are poorly. If you see me running, please cheer me on!"
With the challenge taking place until the end of June, Joseph’s mother, Nicola Walker, expressed her pride in his commitment:
"Joseph loves the atmosphere and the cheers at Park Run. He was so delighted by how supportive everyone has been,” she said.
“He is very committed to the challenge and just wants to help his local hospital."
With over £600 raised so far, all funds raised will support the ward, with donations enabling the hospital to provide those ‘extras’ that go above and beyond standard NHS funding.
Lily Preston, Fundraising Manager at East Cheshire NHS Charity, added:
"We are so inspired by Joseph’s incredible effort and his determination to help other children.
“His 90km challenge will make a real difference in helping us create a more comfortable and welcoming environment on our Children's Ward."
