Two consultants from Macclesfield Hospital have raised over £2,000 for the dementia ward after walking over 150km at the Isle of Wight Ultra Challenge.
Dr Michelle Kelly, Acute Medicine Consultant and Dr Katherine White, Consultant in Care of Older People, completed 167km between them after walking along the island’s stunning coastal path, spectacular southern cliffs and past the iconic Needles.
Monies raised will support the Acute and Elderly Care Ward which specialises in dementia and will help with the refurbishment of the ward’s dementia garden and support the organisation of activities, which help patients feel more settled and engaged during their stay.
Following the event, Katherine said: “It went really well. I completed the full challenge and walked 111km with 24 hours of walking continuously - apart from rest stops!
Superstar Michelle walked 56km, which is amazing with a hamstring injury. It was a tough challenge both physically and mentally but really enjoyable, and the sun also came out!
“The monies raised will be an amazing help in renovating the much-needed garden space for our dementia patients and their relatives. We’re very grateful to all our sponsors who have made this garden a reality.”
