Police officers have arrested a man following an incident in Crewe.
At around 2am on Sunday 25th May officers in Crewe were notified of the sudden death of a woman at an address on Heron Crescent in Crewe.
Officers attended the scene and found that a 47-year-old woman had, sadly, died. The victim's family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers at this time.
At this stage the woman’s cause of death remains unexplained, with enquiries in relation to the incident ongoing throughout the night and, as a result of the incident, a small police cordon is currently in place at the scene.
As part of their initial enquiries, a 53-year-old local man has been arrested by officers on suspicion of murder, and he remains in custody at this time assisting them with their enquiries.
Chief Superintendent Gareth Wrigley said:
“I would like to reassure the local community that this is believed to be an isolated incident. One man has already been arrested and we still have enquiries ongoing.
“I would also like to ask the public not to feed into any speculation, particularly on social media, as this remains an ongoing investigation. There will be extra patrols conducted in the area to provide reassurance, so anyone with any concerns should to speak to an officer.
“As part of the ongoing investigation we are still keen to hear from anyone with any relevant information, CCTV or dash-cam footage that may aid us in our enquiries.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cheshire Police via the website or 101, quoting IML-2097168.
