A man who broke into a shop in Northwich town centre has been jailed.
Daryl Cobain appeared at Warrington Magistrates Court on Saturday 13 May where he pleaded guilty to one count on burglary and one count of shoplifting.
The 47-year-old of Princes Avenue, Northwich, was sentenced to six months in prison.
The burglary charge related to an incident at WH Smiths which occurred at around 1am on Friday 12 May. The shoplifting offence related to the theft of alcohol Sainsburys on Wednesday 10 May.
Daryl Cobain was arrested at around 1.10am on Friday 12 May, when officers were called to reports of suspicious activity near to WH Smiths on Witton Street.
The 47-year-old of Princes Avenue, Northwich, has since been charged with one count on burglary and one count of shoplifting.
The burglary charge relates to an incident at WH Smiths on 12 May and the shoplifting relates to the theft of alcohol from Sainsburys on 10 May.
Cobain has been remanded in custody and is set to appear at Warrington Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 13 May where he was remanded in custody.
Sergeant Leanne Brundrett, of Northwich Local policing unit, said:
“While I understand the concern caused, incidents of this nature are rare in the Northwich area.
“Northwich is a fantastic town and we’re committed to doing all we can to ensure that it remains a safe place to live, work and visit.
“There will be increased patrols in the town centre throughout the weekend and I would urge anyone with any concerns to speak to an officer.”
