New race success for The Running Bee Foundation

Hundreds of runners attended the inaugural Anderton Boat Lift 10K, in Northwich on Sunday (15th).

The Running Bee Foundation’s Anderton Boat Lift 10K saw runners take on a 10K route and MyFirst Mile amid the beautiful surroundings of Cheshire. 

The race started and finished at the iconic Anderton Boat Lift, known as one of the ‘Seven Wonders of the Waterways’ and nicknamed the Cathedral of the Canals. The route took in the picturesque setting of Anderton Nature Reserve, Carey Park and Neuman Flashes. 

The winner of the 10k race Robin Hulme of Bramhall Runners who completed the distance in 36 minutes and 33 seconds. Following with a time of 37 minutes and 04 seconds was Daniel Lightfoot of Cheshire Dragons. Third place was Carl Everall of Nantwich Running Club after he finished in a time of 37 minutes and 40 seconds. 

Anna Begbie was the first female to cross the finish line, with a time of 41 minutes and 32 seconds. Emma Jefferys from Torbay Tri Club then followed second in 44 minutes and 43 seconds. Striding into third place was Rachel Tomalin in 46 minutes and 42 seconds.   

Prize money is given in the form of a charity donation to a charity of the winner’s choice. 1st male and female are given £100 to donate, 2nd male and female can donate £75 and 3rd place male and female are given £50. 

The Running Bee Foundation lead, Stephen Kenny commented, ‘’Sunday’s Anderton Boat Lift 10K was the Foundation’s first race in Cheshire and we’re proud to say it was a great success. We have had some brilliant feedback from runners about the route, event, and atmosphere – one even saying it was one of the most enjoyable runs they have ever done! We’d like to thank our amazing volunteers for all their help on the day, our partners Canal & River Trust, Active Cheshire, Radio Northwich & Northwich Guardian, but most of all, all the runners who have helped raise vital funds for health and wellbeing projects in Cheshire. We look forward to bringing the race back in 2023.’’ 

All runners who crossed the finish line received an Anderton Boat Lift 10K commemorative medal, a technical t-shirt, and official race chip timing. 

All profits from the race will be granted to community projects and causes in Cheshire to fund health and wellbeing projects and fight in tackling childhood obesity.
