A prolific shoplifter has been banned from entering several shops in Northwich after officers secured a Criminal Behaviour Order.
Jamie Clarke, of Northwich, was served with the three-year order at Chester Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 6th January, after he pleaded guilty to seven shoplifting offences.
As a result of the order, the 38-year-old must not:
- Place any item within a carrier bag, rucksack or any other article capable of concealing items prior to payment when having entered any retail premises within Cheshire
- Conceal any items on his person in any retail stores in Cheshire.
- He is also banned from entering the following stores –
- Tesco, Manchester Road, Northwich
- Tesco, Kingsmead Square, Northwich
- Waitrose, London Road, Northwich
- Sainsburys, Venables Road, Northwich
- Sainsburys Local, Chester Road, Hartford
- Pets at Home, Chesterway, Northwich
In addition to the CBO, he has also been sentenced to 14 weeks in prison after he admitted seven counts of theft from a shop and one count of using threatening and abusive language with intent to cause harassment, alarm and distress.
In total he stole items worth £681.80 from several stores across Northwich, including Tesco, Waitrose and Boots.
If Clarke fails to comply with the CBO, he will be committing a criminal offence and could face a prison sentence of up to five years..
Inspector Paul Heatley, of Northwich Local Policing Unit, said:
"Clarke is a prolific offender and hopefully this three-year CBO will deter such actions in the future, while also allowing us to swiftly deal with him if he breaches any of his requirements.
"I also hope that the order will provide reassurance to local businesses, demonstrating that we are committed to doing all we can to tackle shoplifting across the area."
