The Green Party in Cheshire East has gained a new town councillor in Sandbach (Elworth) as Sandra Broad defects from the Labour Party. This brings the Cheshire East Green Party councillor count to 6.
Sandra says on her defection "I have been so fed up with a lack of any meaningful environmental action from either of the main parties and I have always been a Green at heart. With the recent furore within the town council there is no better time for me to follow my heart and do what I have always done for the residents and community of Elworth but with a Green Party badge! I am confident that the residents will only see a positive change in our locality as a result of this move. I’ll be continuing as vice-chair of the Friends of Sandbach Cemetery and am currently pursuing the borough council in relation to their questionable air quality reports”
Melanie English, one of the current co-chairs of CEGP says, "we are delighted that Sandra has joined the Green Party, her service and work ethic will be a tremendous asset to our party, while she continues to support the people of Elworth as they have been used to. Her commitment to the environment and the climate is clear and it is great timing for our local party as we finalise ambitious plans and targets for the 2023 local elections and the next General Election."
