Residents at Elworth Grange care home in Sandbach were delighted to receive a surprise visit from pupils of Rode Heath Primary School as they performed a nativity play and sang festive carols.
The young students aged between 7 and 8, had dressed up as Mary, Joseph, the Angel Gabrielle and the three Kings to bring festive cheer to everyone and they had even arranged for ‘Jesus the donkey’ to be present for the show!
The children remained outside throughout the performance and sang their favourite carols such as ‘Away in a Manger’ and ‘Silent Night’ from a safe distance behind large windows as residents watched from the communal lounge, ensuring all Covid-19 guidelines were met.
82-year-old resident, Barbara Armitt, said, ‘It was absolutely marvellous! Those precious children stood at the window and sang their little hearts out just for us. They really looked the part, all dressed up and with a donkey too. I will always remember their smiling faces giggling away. I can’t thank them enough’.
Donna Cowell, Elworth Grange Home Manager, said, ‘It was wonderful to welcome the Rode Heath Primary School children to our home for a socially distanced nativity and we’d like to thank them all for taking the time to bring a positive end to a year that has been challenging for everyone. The children had put so much effort into their performance and we all felt quite emotional and super Christmassy! What a true testament of community and Christmas spirit – our residents enjoyed every second.’
