Tree planted to honour devoted foster carers during Foster Care Fortnight

A celebration of foster carers across Cheshire East took place in Queens Park in Crewe yesterday, as a tree was planted in their honour.

The event was planned in support of Foster Care Fortnight – an annual campaign dedicated to showcasing the commitment, passion and dedication of foster carers. The symbolic gesture will not only beautify the local landscape, but also serve as a lasting tribute to foster carers across the borough.

Cheshire East Council’s fostering service, working with Ansa and the Cheshire Wildlife Trust, has set out to plant a tree for every foster carer household in the borough. With grant funding in place, this ongoing initiative launched in May 2022, and is also supporting the council’s commitment to carbon neutrality in Cheshire East.

Councillor Carol Bulman, lead member for children and families at Cheshire East Council, helped to plant the tree.

She said:

“I’m incredibly proud of the many amazing ways in which our foster carers provide love and support to children and young people who need it most. Planting trees in their honour is a small token of our immense appreciation for their unwavering commitment to nurturing the lives of these children.

“We are privileged to have so many wonderful foster carers, but it’s important to remember that there’s always a need for more dedicated individuals to join our fostering community. For these children, having a stable, loving foster home can make a world of difference in their lives.”
