The RSPCA is appealing for information after a bull breed dog was found abandoned in a Cheshire cemetery.
The dog called Trixie was discovered wandering inside the gates of Crewe Cemetery and Crematorium last Sunday morning (March 23) soon after she was spotted being led into the site on Badger Avenue via the entrance at Market Close.
The member of the public who found the dog, who was in good health, took her to a vets in Nantwich. She has been microchipped and is now being cared for at private boarding accommodation in Shropshire.
The RSPCA were contacted and the charity has released this image of two men it is keen to speak to as it is believed they have important information about the incident. The animal charity is appealing for them to come forward to potentially support their enquiries.
RSPCA Inspector Nadine Pengilly, who is investigating, said:
“We would like to talk to these two men as we think they may be able to help with our enquiries.
“It appears the dog was deliberately left at the location, but thankfully she was picked up very quickly by a member of the public and she is now being cared for.
“The RSPCA has seen a worrying surge in the abandonments of pets at the start of this year and we would urge anyone considering abandoning an animal because they are struggling to care for them to seek out help from the many reputable animal welfare charities who can offer help and advice to anybody in a difficult situation.”
In January 1,972 incidents of abandonment were reported to the RSPCA compared to 1,471 incidents in the first month of last year, a rise of more than 34%. Similarly 1,702 abandonment incidents were reported to the charity last month - compared to 1,405 in February 2024.
The RSPCA have launched a dedicated cost of living hub to outline and signpost the help out there for owners and the charity also has more than 200 Pet Food Bank Partnerships across the country to support struggling pet owners.
Trixie has a dark brown coat and white chest.
If anyone has any information about her they are urged to contact the RSPCA appeals line number on:
