Local children’s cancer charity, The Joshua Tree announced that Margaret Wright has been appointed new CEO.
An experienced leader, Margaret will succeed Founder and former CEO Linda Hill and temporary volunteer CEO, Piers McLeish to assume responsibilities of the charity. Founder Linda Hill, who was CEO for over thirteen years has stepped down to pursue her PhD in Psychological trauma, where she is studying the emotional support needs of grandparents whose grandchild has had a childhood cancer diagnosis, including bereaved grandparents.
Margaret, a qualified Chartered Accountant, has held various financial and leadership roles in private practice, further education, industry and not for profit sector, and was CEO of the Hospice of the Good Shepherd in Chester prior to joining The Joshua Tree in April.
“We are delighted to welcome Margret to The Joshua Team and feel her skills, experience and overall support of our ethos as a charity makes her the right fit for the role”, said Dai Hill, Chair of Trustees.
Margaret commented “I am excited to bring my business experience and passion for the charity sector to support families dealing with the devastating impact of childhood cancers.”

The Charity’s interest in clinical research continues with the development of links with surrounding Universities to better understand the affects that childhood cancer has on a family, emotionally, cognitively, and physically.
The focus remains at the heart of the charity, to continuing to offer support to the whole family, from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond, as specifically recognising that post-treatment can be a challenging time, when families are having to adapt to their `new normal` and the charity offers support to help bridge the gap that’s left when the safety net of treatment ends.
The Family Support Team are dedicated to working closely with families to the charity in recognising that every family’s cancer journey is unique, tailoring the services to suit the family’s specific needs, by means of emotional well-being and practical support in and around the home, medical and educational environments where required.
To date, over 220 families have been referred to The Charity.
