A man who was caught bringing class A drugs into Northwich from Manchester has been jailed.
Makai Clue, appeared at Chester Crown Court on Friday 20 October, where he was sentenced to two years.
The 21-year-old, of Clarendon Road, Walley Grange, Manchester, had previously pleaded guilty to two counts of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs (heroin and cocaine).
Clue was one of a number of men who were arrested as part of a week of action against drug dealing in Northwich. On Wednesday 20 September, police received intelligence of a new county lines drugs gang operating in the local area.
After receiving the intel, additional patrols were deployed in the town centre, who spotted Clue acting suspiciously on London Road at around 3.20pm on Wednesday 20 September.
Officers approached Clue to speak to him but he attempted to flee the scene and disposed of a number of items. However, he was quickly located hiding in bushes on Water Street and arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs.
While searching Clue, officers discovered approximately £200 cash and a mobile phone which contained a number of messages advertising the sale of illegal drugs.
Following his sentencing, Detective Constable Adam Cupples, of Northwich Proactive Policing Team said:
“The consequences of illegal drugs reach far and wide and the sentence handed to Clue today should send a strong message to anyone wanting to bring drugs into Cheshire that this will not be tolerated.
“During his questioning, Clue made a full admission that he had travelled to Northwich to sell drugs. However, he claimed that he was only controlling the ‘graft’ phone and not handling the drugs.
“Thankfully, as a result of our investigation, Clue’s offending has been brought to a stop and he is now behind bars facing the consequences.
“If you have any concerns about drugs activity in your community, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us via 101 or through our website.”
