East Cheshire NHS Trust urges people to wear masks

East Cheshire NHS Trust highlights to patients and visitors the importance of continued social distancing and mask wearing whilst attending healthcare settings.

It is important that all patients and visitors who attend hospital or community health settings continue to wear masks unless exempt and that they also adhere to social distancing.

Director of Infection Prevention and Control, Brian Green, said, “We are aware that people are eager for society to return to how it was before Covid, however, infection rates across Cheshire East are still high, with many people not realising they may be infected.

“Furthermore, the Delta variant of Covid, which is currently dominant in the UK, is more highly transmissible than other variants, meaning that an infected person is likely to pass it on to many more.

“We would like to urge our local community to maintain the infection control and prevention measures we have in place and continue to adhere with other restrictions such as limited visiting by appointment only.

“Covid is transmitted when we breathe out which is why we require anyone coming into our hospitals, including staff, to wear a face mask, which are readily available at hospital entrances.  Our patients are, by the very fact they’re unwell and in hospital, weaker and more vulnerable to Covid.
