Former firefighters who once worked at Macclesfield Fire Station in 1970 are invited to its 50th anniversary event.
The station’s Chester Road base first opened its doors on 2 April 1970 and to mark the 50th anniversary of its opening, the team are hoping to reach out to any former firefighters who can share their stories from this time.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service also want to hear from anyone who has any photographs of the station throughout the ages.
In 1970 Macclesfield Fire Station was under Cheshire County Fire Brigade, just four years later the station came under the Cheshire Fire Brigade before working under Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service from 2002 to present day.
Phil Marke, Watch Manager at Macclesfield Fire Station, said: “It’s really interesting to see how much the fire and rescue service has changed over the last 50 years and, while the station, appliances and firefighters have changed, the stories that we can share among ourselves and former colleagues will be remarkably similar I’m sure.
“For this event, we’re looking for any former firefighters to share their stories ahead of our station’s 50th anniversary.
“Perhaps you have some photographs of the station taken around the time of April 1970 or may have some stories to tell about the opening – we want to hear from you.”
Any retired firefighters who worked at Macclesfield Fire Station in April 1970 please contact Phil Marke at philip.marke@cheshirefire.gov.uk or call 01625 423222 for more information about the event.
