The previous Town Mayor of Congleton, Cllr Sally-Ann Holland, donated almost £6,500 to local charities and schools following her two years as Mayor. The recent fund giving presentation held at the Town Hall marked the final event in her chapter.
Many planned fund-raising activities, including the Mayor’s Ball on both years, were cancelled due to COVID-19. Despite a challenging time the mayor was delighted to present the two main beneficiaries Visyon Ltd and League of Friends for Macclesfield and Congleton Hospitals with a cheque for £2685 each.
Seven schools received cheques for the part they played in starring in and selling 2019 school calendars. Recognition must go to the local companies who sponsored the calendars, providing further proceeds to the schools. Sponsors were: Cleric Computer Services, HJ Lea Oakes, Berisfords, Palletforce, Id2 Media, Plastosac, Congleton Town Council, DP Sportswear, Timothy A Brown, Concept Data Solutions and Senior Aerospace.
Cllr Holland said “I would like to thank everyone who contributed and supported me over the last two years. Although it’s been an unusual time for people, I am so pleased the community pulled together to raise funds to help these important local charities carry out their vital work.”
Funds were raised through a grand raffle, winter warmer event, afternoon tea, and through donations from events at New Life Church, the Tennis Club and Congleton Rotary. The Mayor’s Chaplain for the year; Reverend Andrew Lindley helped to organise the Town Mayor’s Civic Service, donations given at the service were shared with the Trinity Methodist Church.
A civic service to welcome Congleton’s new Town Mayor, Cllr Denis Murphy will take place at St Peter’s Church on Sunday 12 September 2021 at 3.00pm.
