Ahead of the Strategic Planning Board meeting on Wednesday 24th April, local MP, David Rutley, has called on Cheshire East Council to withdraw the Planning Application which relates to Poynton Pool from the agenda.
David is urging Council leaders to do this, in response to the alternative proposals which the Friends of Poynton Pool have recently developed. The active community group has set out two alternative solutions, aiming to be more environmentally friendly whilst also protecting more of the much-valued trees at Poynton Pool. Both plans have been submitted to Cheshire East Council for consideration and David is keen to ensure there is time to give these proposals the consideration they deserve.
In addition, the Friends of Poynton Pool, Poynton Town Council and others have highlighted in detail their concerns about the accuracy of information and guidance that has been provided to Cheshire East Council by Jacobs. In light of this and the latest proposals from the Friends of Poynton Pool, David has also asked that the Council’s Economy and Growth Committee review these plans and for the Council to further engage with the Friends of Poynton Pool, Poynton Town Council and local residents to discuss alternative proposals.
Since the Council’s Spillway Improvements were initially announced, David has received a high volume of correspondence from local residents, setting out their strong concerns in relation to this planning application and the impact the proposed works will have on many of the trees in the surrounding area and on the local environment. He has previously written to the former interim Chief Executive of the Council numerous times and met on site with both the Friends of Poynton Pool and Cheshire East Council officers.
Speaking on this important local issue, David said:
“I have set out my objections to the plans for Poynton Pool on a number of occasions. It is time for Cheshire East Council to re-think the proposals and look more closely at the alternative solutions the Friends of Poynton Pool have developed. I hope that Cheshire East Council listens to local concerns, including the views of Poynton Town Council, and withdraws the planning application ahead of Wednesday’s Strategic Planning Board meeting. It’s what local residents and this treasured community asset deserve.”
