Musica Nova’s new season launches at All Saints' Church in Cheadle Hulme, on Saturday 12th October at 7:30pm, with a concert of music by Rossini, Delibes and Beethoven.
The concert opens with the energetic overture to Rossini’s comic opera La Cenerentola (Cinderella). Two pieces by 19th Century French composer Delibes follow. Le roi s’amuse (‘The King Amuses Himself’) is a series of eight, mostly dance, pieces composed as incidental music for Victor Hugo’s play of the same name. Musica Nova will also be performing the well-known ‘Pizzicato’ from Act 3 of Delibes’ ballet ‘Sylvia’.
The finale is Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 ‘Pastoral’. The symphony is a musical portrayal of nature, reflecting the composer’s great love of the countryside.
