Priorities for Disley were the focus of a recent meeting between local MP, David Rutley and Disley councillor, Sue Adams.
Tackling traffic congestion and improvements to road safety were at the top of the agenda.
A number of local residents have contacted both David and Councillor Adams concerned about traffic volumes through the village and the associated congestion and air pollution. David was pleased to hear that from March, Disley will be benefiting from a weekly FlexiLink service to Handforth Dean and Poynton. The service will be a positive step forwards in reducing the number of car journeys. From 5th March, every Tuesday there will be a 10am departure from Disley Community Centre. The fare is £3 each way or free with a Cheshire East Council bus pass. Local residents can register for Flexilink through forms, which are available at the Parish Council or Library, or by calling 0300 123 5110 for more information.
Road safety concerns were also discussed, including the recent fatal accident on Mudhurst Lane. Following this devastating accident and 31 other road traffic incidents since 2018, Cllr Adams is campaigning for the road to have a 40mph speed limit and she was pleased to hear David add his support to this proposal.
Cllr Adams also updated David on the work she is doing to restore the worn road markings at the Ram's Head crossroads. This crossroads is the key junction in the village centre, and it is important the road markings are clear and visible to improve safety for both road users and pedestrians.
The meeting provided the opportunity for David and Councillor Adams to discuss the increase in e-bikes along designated footpaths, including Green Lane, Disley. These routes are well-used by many residents, including dog walkers and families with young children and it vital these routes remain safe for all to enjoy. David is following up on this issue with the relevant Government Ministers.

“Local transport has long been a challenge for Disley residents, and I am pleased to hear that the FlexiLink service will be available once a week, thanks to the positive work of Councillor Adams and the Parish Council – I urge residents to sign up, as I am sure it will be well used. I look forward to continuing to work alongside Cllr Adams to help tackle traffic congestion and improve road safety in the village.”
