A man from Northwich is the first person in the county to be convicted of breaching a Stalking Protection Order (SPO).
John Day, of Marshall Lane, failed to register for the order after it was served on him to protect his victim.
The order prohibits the 46-year-old from contacting, interacting or engaging with the woman through social media, the internet or surveillance.
Officers from the Public Protection Directorate’s domestic abuse team and Northwich Local Policing Unit worked jointly to obtain the order.
Day was handed the SPO following a court hearing on 8 April 2020 – he then had to contact police within three days as part of the order.
However, after failing to contact officers, he was arrested on Monday 20 April and subsequently charged.
Day pleaded guilty at Warrington Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 21 April and was ordered to pay an £80 fine, a victim surcharge of £32 and a further £85 in costs.
