Police and Crime Commissioner John Dwyer held a public meeting on Thursday 5th October enabling the police, Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester councils to listen first-hand to residents’ concerns about the area.
The Commissioner invited representatives from Cheshire Police’s Northwich and Macclesfield Local Policing Units, Cheshire East and Cheshire West Council as well as Esther McVey MP and Councillor Kate Parkinson to the meeting, to help discuss issues and reassure residents.
The issues highlighted included parking problems, misuse of drugs and alcohol, and public indecency, all of which have a detrimental impact on those who live with it on a regular basis.
Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, John Dwyer said:
“In my role as Commissioner I am able to act as a conduit for the public to have their voice heard by the Constabulary. However, I also have links into the councils through other partner working groups I conduct, so it made sense for me to bring everyone involved in this together.
“At the meeting itself I made it clear that the problems wouldn’t be solved there and then, but by working together I’m confident solutions can be found to alleviate some of the issues identified.”
After hearing the frustrations of local residents, the Commissioner proposed to create a working group which encompassed the police, Cheshire East council, Cheshire West and Chester council and the four local parish councils that are involved in and around the lake.
John Dwyer added:
“Preventing and tackling crime is key in my Police and Crime Plan, and nobody should have to tolerate unacceptable behaviour, especially so close to their homes.
“Every person living in Cheshire has the right to feel safe and protected by the law, particularly within their home, their street and their local community. I’m confident that this working group will come together and find solutions to help the local community.”
