The Bridgend Centre, located in Bollington, has launched a new initiative, Shuttle to the Shops. Local MP David Rutley, met with Rebecca Lea, Centre Manager, and Maxine Lomas, Community Worker, to discuss this exciting project and the many other activities that are available at the Centre.
Launched earlier this month, Shuttle to the Shops provides a bus service from Bollington every fortnight on a Wednesday afternoon, to various shopping destinations in the nearby area. The service is run by the Bridgend Centre and funded by Cheshire Community Action, with each trip costing just £4 per person. The destinations are on a rota basis, which can be seen alongside the pickup locations on the Centre’s website.
As always, there is a wide variety of groups and activities on offer to local residents, and the team are always looking for new areas in which they can provide support. This includes a newly created bereavement support group, which is being run by The End of Life Partnership at the Centre, and provides a six week programme to support those who have suffered a recent bereavement. Brew With The Guys is also a newly formed male focused group, which recently visited Jodrell Bank for the day.
David was pleased to hear that the 13th Bollington Walking Festival will take place from Saturday 9th September, until Sunday 17th September. There is an extensive programme of walks on offer, to cover all abilities and age ranges, which is supported by the Bridgend Centre. The festival website is live, with the walk calendar available for browsing and the option to book onto any of the walks:

Rebecca also updated David about the new and exciting Bridgend Bake Off, which is taking place on Saturday 23rd September. The competition will be judged by the Mayor of Bollington, Helen Ellwood, Anne Belfield of Belfields Village Bakery and Elaine Berry of Bezza’s Bakes. It is open to everyone, with five categories bakers can take part in. There is an entrance fee for competitors, which includes afternoon tea and local residents will have the opportunity to try the cakes from the competition.
The Bridgend Centre is located at 104 Palmerston Street, Bollington, Cheshire, SK10 5PW and all activities and the dates and times of all activities can be found using the following link:

Speaking after the meeting, David said:
“From talking to local residents, I know that Shuttle to the Shops, will be a real asset to those who are not easily able to get around. I am very grateful to the Bridgend Centre for taking forward this important scheme, which is already being well-used. The range of activities and groups on offer at the Centre is fantastic and provides vital support in our local communities. I hope many local residents get involved in the Bridgend Bake Off – I wish all participants every success in the competition!”
