We Will Remember Them

Congleton Town Council is hoping for the usual fantastic turnout at the Congleton Remembrance Service at the Cenotaph on Sunday 13th November, as we remember those who have given their lives in service to our Country over the years.

The parade will form up at West Street Car Park ready to leave at 10.30am. The Parade route is West Street, Swan Bank, Pedestrian Area, High Street, Market Square, Park Street, Bank Street and into Lawton Street to arrive at the Cenotaph at 10.50am.

Congleton Town Mayor, Cllr Margaret Gartside, said: “Remembrance Sunday is always very well attended in Congleton and we very much hope this tradition of coming together to remember and pay respects to those who have given their lives continues. It is always great to see so many youth groups and organisations getting involved. This year we are delighted to welcome representatives from the Princess Irene Brigade who are travelling over from Holland to take part in the parade.”

Two horses will lead the parade, along with Parade Marshall, Gary Dolman from the Royal British Legion and the Congleton Air Training Corps band. Traffic will be held up on Mill Street and Waggs Street to allow the parade to march safely along West Street and Swanbank. There will be further hold-ups on Market Street and Moody Street as the procession moves along the High Street. Kinsey Street and access to Lawton Street from the High Street will be closed from 10.30am until the end of the service. The roads are expected to re-open around 12.15pm. Access to the High Street from Canal Street is also expected to be closed for the duration, depending on the crowd numbers.

In a change from previous years, Rev Ian Enticott will conduct a short Remembrance service at the cenotaph immediately after the wreath laying. Following the service the parade will reform and march to the back of the Town Hall via Market Square where they will be dismissed.

The event is organised by Congleton Town Council in association with the Congleton Branch of the Royal British Legion. The Town Council funds the road closures, sound system, band and other expenses associated with the event.
