Amazing transformation of a rabbit rescued by the RSPCA

An RSPCA rescue rabbit, who had such a severe infection he had open wounds on his face, is now happy in his forever home.

Bobby came into the care of the RSPCA  Altrincham Cheshire branch in February 2019, as his previous owners were unable to care for him.

RSPCA inspector Heather Morris had been called to help and found Bobby in a small indoor cage with little hay or enrichment.

He had fur loss and his tear ducts were so badly blocked much of his face was taken over with infection.

Heather said: “I will always remember Bobby, he was such a little heartbreaker. As soon as I saw him I knew he needed medical attention straight away, his sad little face was such a mess.

“His previous owner signed him over into our care pretty quickly so I was able to get him the help he so desperately needed.

“When I took him to the vet they said he had blocked tear ducts which resulted in the skin sores and infection.

“The fur loss on his back was due to fleas. Luckily we have the Altrincham Cheshire branch in our area who are so amazing at caring for bunnies.

“They were absolutely brilliant with Bobby and nursed him back to the happy and healthy I knew he could be. He’s an absolute champ and I love seeing those photos of him with his wife bun and hearing about how he’s part of a loving family who adore him. He’s absolutely fallen on his paws.”

Jo Yoli volunteer small furry rehoming coordinator at the Altrincham Cheshire branch fostered and cared for Bobby when he was first brought into them. She even bathed his face twice a day and put cream on his infection to help improve his condition.

Vet nurse Amy Bentley, from Stoke on Trent, already owned four rescue rabbits when she came across Bobby’s story online.

Amy adopted Bobby in July 2019, she said: “When I saw Bobby’s story and how he had been mistreated I couldn’t believe someone could let him get into that state.

“I’m so grateful to the RSPCA for getting him back to health, he is my little superstar now. He just loves his food and is really well bonded with my other rabbit Clover.

“They have lots of space in a converted shed and spend time outdoors in the summer so he has a lovely life now.

“He will have some ongoing health issues for the rest of his life including eye drops and weekly laser sessions to aid his mobility.

“Nothing I can say about Bobby really does him full justice, his sheer determination to live his best life every single day no matter what life throws at him amazes me.”
