Cheshire East Council has secured funding to help residents stay warm this winter, with support available for those who need it most.
The funding forms part of the Warm Homes: Local Grant, provided by the government’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. It will be used to improve the energy efficiency of homes across Cheshire and Warrington.
The Warm Homes Local Grant funding can support a range of energy saving improvements, which may include insulation and other measures designed to improve a home’s energy performance. Support is targeted at households in the sub-region’s least energy-efficient privately-owned homes that may be most vulnerable to rising energy costs and the effects of cold weather.
The scheme is being led by Cheshire East Council in partnership with Cheshire West and Chester and Warrington Borough Councils. It supports Cheshire East’s action on climate change, including efforts to cut carbon emissions from homes across the borough, with initiatives such as Solar Together complementing this wider work.
Together, these actions contribute to the council’s ambition for Cheshire East to become a carbon neutral borough by 2045 – five years ahead of the government’s national target.
Councillor Mick Warren, chair of Cheshire East Council’s economy and growth committee, said:
“Keeping warm at home is essential for people’s health and wellbeing, particularly during the winter months. This funding enables us to support residents who may be struggling with energy costs and improves the energy efficiency of their homes. It will help people to be warmer, more comfortable and in turn will make their homes cheaper to heat.
“We would encourage anyone who is worried about keeping their home warm this winter to find out what support may be available.”
The Warm Homes: Local Grant is part of national efforts to tackle fuel poverty, reduce carbon emissions and improve the quality of housing, while supporting residents to remain safe and well in their own homes.
