The League of Friends charity shop on Lawton Street has been recognised with a Town Mayor’s High Street Award, celebrating an incredible 50 years of service to the local community.
The shop raises funds to support the local NHS Hospitals in Congleton and Macclesfield, as well as the groups, staff, and patients connected with them.
Joyce Callan, a long-standing volunteer, received the award from the town mayor on behalf of the shop and expressed her gratitude.
Joyce said:
“It is a real honour to accept this award on behalf of the League of Friends. For 50 years, the shop has been supported by our amazing volunteers, generous donors, and loyal customers. Every donation and every purchase helps us support our local hospitals and the people who rely on them. We’re so grateful to the Congleton community for helping us make a difference.”
Congleton Town Mayor, Cllr Robert Brittain praised the League of Friends for their contribution to the town, he said:
“The charity shop is a shining example of dedication and community spirit. For 50 years, their volunteers have worked tirelessly to support our local hospitals, raise funds, and offer a welcoming space for residents. It is a pleasure to recognise their long-standing service with this award.”
The shop sells a wide variety of donated items, including clothing, books, CDs, DVDs, and other miscellaneous items. Volunteers and staff rely on regular donations to maintain a diverse stock for customers, and the shop continues to welcome contributions from the community.
Joyce explains:
“We always need donations and are so thankful to everyone who gives to us. We’d also like to thank our loyal customers for their continued support. At the moment, we have a great stock of Halloween costumes, and our Christmas range will be arriving soon!”
