Congleton Town Council Provides Free Bus Travel to Power the Green Fayre

Congleton Town Council has allocated the third of its four ‘Free Bus Days’ from Cheshire East Council to the Green Fayre.

Making it easier than ever for residents and visitors to head into town on Saturday 26th September for the seventh annual Green Fayre.

The free bus service, provided by Congleton Town Council places sustainable travel at the heart of the Green Fayre, encouraging everyone to leave the car at home, eliminate parking stress, and lower emissions on the way to the festival.

While designed to give families an eco-friendly route straight to the event, the free bus service can be used for any local travel across Congleton all day long. Whether people are heading in for the fayre, browsing the Makers Market, catching up with friends, doing weekend shopping, or running local errands, all rides within the town boundary are completely free.

All participating buses will run to their standard Saturday timetables throughout the day:

• ‘Beartown’ Circular Services: 90 (Bromley Estate), 91 (Mossley), 92 (Buglawton), 93a/c (Barn Road), and 94 (to/from Biddulph).
• D&G Routes: 38 (Crewe–Macclesfield via Congleton) and 42 (to/from Crewe).

Note: Journeys are free for any portion travelled within the official Congleton boundary. Standard fares apply to any portion of a journey outside Congleton. Passengers can plan their journey using bustimes.org (selecting the Saturday service for 'Congleton') or track buses live using the D&G Bus App.

Cllr Suzy Firkin, Congleton’s Town Mayor, commented:

“We want this year’s Green Fayre to be about much more than simply visiting a row of stalls—we want people to come into town, have fun, get involved, and discover something new.

“By funding free bus travel across Congleton for the day, we are putting our green values into action. It allows families to travel to the fayre completely hassle-free without worrying about parking or traffic. Plus, because the free buses can be used for any trip across town, it’s a fantastic opportunity for everyone to support our high street, visit the Makers Market, or run their weekend errands sustainably.”

The Green Fayre takes place from 10am to 3pm on Congleton High Street and inside the Town Hall visitors will find the Big Clothes Movement and Congleton Repair Café. Organised by Congleton Town Council and Congleton Partnership the free-to-attend fayre —promises a fun-filled day of family entertainment, activities, and greener living ideas.

Bringing together around 30 local businesses, community groups, and environmental organisations, the event focuses on hands-on experiences. Highlights include:

• Family Entertainment: A children's entertainer teaching circus skills and roaming "human butterflies" offering unique photo opportunities and butterfly hugs.
• Interactive Stalls & Crafts: Demonstrations, environmental projects, nature and wildlife info, and practical ideas to take home and put into practice.
• Green Passport Prize Draw: Summer Green Passport participants can bring their completed passports to the event to enter the official prize draw.
