Investigation launched following allegations of historic sexual abuse

Detectives from Cheshire Police have launched an investigation following allegations of historic sexual abuse.

The investigation follows allegations of historic sexual abuse associated with Crewe and Nantwich Gymnastics also known as Camm Street Gym in Crewe.

The allegations relate to offences which are reported to have occurred in the 1980’s and 1990’s.

They do not involve the current team working at the Camm centre.

A 68-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of indecent assault of a girl under the age of 14. He has since been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.

Detective Inspector Stuart York, from Cheshire Police said:

“I understand the concerns that this news is likely to cause and I would like to reassure residents that the appropriate safeguarding measures have been put in place.

“We treat all reports of sexual offences extremely seriously, and our dedicated team of officers are committed to doing establish exactly what has taken place.

“Enquiries in relation to the allegations are ongoing I would urge anyone with any concerns, or any information which may aid the investigation, to get in touch.”
