Repair works will be taking place at Macclesfield household waste recycling centre over the next few months. Residents are advised to plan their visits in advance and to avoid peak times where possible.
The works will begin on Monday 16 November and will take several months to complete.
During this time:
- The on-site containers will be positioned in a different area than usual and new traffic management will be in place.
- Residents will not be able to dispose of wood, asbestos, rubble or plasterboard at this site but will be able to take these materials to an alternative site in Cheshire East. All other materials will be accepted as normal. Crewe and Alsager household waste recycling centres will be able to accept asbestos during this period.
- Residents should expect longer queues, particularly at peak times.
- The site is usually busiest on Mondays and Tuesdays and residents are encouraged to avoid these days if they can visit on another day.
- The site will close intermittently for up to 30 minutes at a time so that skips can be exchanged and compacted to accommodate more waste.
- Residents will need to access the containers using several steps and platforms. Residents should consider the types and volumes of waste which they can safely carry up these steps. Staff will provide assistance wherever possible.
- The booking system will remain in place for weekend visits. All of the above restrictions will apply at weekends.
- Staff will be available to meet and greet visitors.
Councillor David Jefferay, Cheshire East Council cabinet member for environment, sustainability and waste management, said:
“The works we need to carry out at Macclesfield household waste recycling centre are unavoidable. We’ve scheduled them to take place at one of the quieter times of the year for visits, but we recognise that they are going to cause some disruption and have an impact on visitors’ experience at the site.
“I’d like to thank residents in advance for their patience. We are making every effort to ensure the disruption is as minimal as possible, and that communication on site with residents is timely and clear so that when visitors arrive, they know what to expect.”
Signage will be in place at the site notifying visitors of the upcoming works.
Updates will also be available on the council’s website and social media channels.
