Take steps to stay strong is the message Cheshire East Council wants to promote for Falls Awareness Week 2025.
Cheshire East Council, One You Cheshire East and the NHS are encouraging residents to take part in Falls Awareness Week 2025, a national campaign running from Monday 15 to Friday 19 September, focused on helping older adults stay active, independent, and confident.
This year’s campaign highlights the positive steps people can take to maintain strength, balance and mobility, all key ingredients for living well at any age.
Staying active matters as falls are not an inevitable part of ageing. In fact, many can be prevented by making small lifestyle changes. Regular eye checks, staying hydrated, eating well, and keeping active all play a role in helping people stay steady on their feet.
Councillor Jill Rhodes, Cheshire East Council’s adults and health committee chair, said:
“Falls Awareness Week is about empowering our older residents to take control of their health and wellbeing.
“By staying active and informed, we can all take steps to live safer, stronger, and more independent lives.”
The ‘Steady on Your Feet’ website offers a free online resource developed in partnership with the NHS and local councils. It provides practical advice, videos, and a self-assessment tool to help individuals create a personalised action plan to reduce their risk of falling.
As part of Falls Awareness Week, residents can join One You Cheshire East’s Stand Strong team at one of their events and take steps to help reduce falls and live a safer, healthier life.
The events are taking place on:
- Monday 15th September: Holmes Chapel Community Centre, Station Road, Holmes Chapel CW4 8AA from 11am to 1pm
- Monday 15th September: Caritas Centre Crewe, 65 Delamere Street, Crewe CW1 2JX from 3pm to 5pm
- Wednesday 17th September: Everybody @ Macclesfield Central, Merchant Exchange, Gas Road, Macclesfield SK11 6JX from 10am until 12 noon.
These events are free of charge and no need to book, just turn up. They are for anybody who is looking to improve their strength, balance and mobility, please come along. Family members, carers, health professionals and anyone in the community looking to support falls awareness week and reduce the risk of falls are also welcome.
