Cheshire East Council’s registrars have been voted best in the North West for the sixth year in a row for the quality of their marriage and civil partnership ceremonies.
They retained their crown for ‘best ceremony provider’ at the regional wedding awards held recently at The Mere Golf Resort and Spa, Knutsford, and hosted by County Brides Magazine. The award is voted for by people who use these services.
The registration service has been previously praised for the way it adapted to Covid, having to quickly rearrange dates to suit couples and deliver a seamless service.
Staff attended more than 2,300 ceremonies in the last 12 months to April.
A further 2,000-plus couples will be saying ‘I do’ between now and the end of March 2024, in ceremonies supervised by the council’s registrars at one of the 83 approved premises now licensed for weddings and civil partnerships in the borough.
Andrew Foster, the council’s lead ceremony coordinator, said: “I am extremely proud of our team, who have really pulled out the stops and worked tirelessly during another busy year.
“Last year was particularly challenging, as ceremonies cancelled due to Covid took place alongside those originally planned for 2022.”
Councillor Sam Corcoran, leader of the council and chair of its corporate policy committee, said: “To win this award six years in a row is a truly remarkable achievement. I warmly congratulate and thank the team for all their hard work during what has been another extremely busy year.
“I am also proud of the fact that Cheshire East continues to offer outstanding services – and some truly outstanding locations for marriage ceremonies and civil partnerships.
"Our registrars can put the icing on the cake for so many happy couples by delivering a highly-professional service on their big day.”
