The crackdown on illegal drugs in Northwich is continuing, following the arrests of a fifth man in relation to county lines drug dealing.
The 21-year-old from Manchester was arrested at around 3.20pm on Wednesday 20 September after officers attempted to conduct a stop check on Water Street.
The man initially attempted to flee the scene and dispose of a number of items, but he was quickly stopped by officers and arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs.
He is currently being held in police custody where he is being questioned by officers.
Detective Sergeant John Lyons said:
“Firstly, I would like to thank the local community for coming forward and providing information which has played a key role in the operation we’ve been undertaking this week.
“Thanks in part to information they have provided we’ve been able to seize a quantity of illegal drugs and arrest a number of suspects in relation to the supply of illegal drugs.
“Illegal drugs have a detrimental impact on communities, and we are committed to doing all we can to identify those involved in supplying them in our town.”
Over the past week officers and detectives in Northwich have been taking part in an ongoing operation to crackdown on county lines drug dealers and make the town a hostile place for criminals.
The operation began on Monday 18 September when detectives arrested three men at Hartford train station on suspicion of bringing drugs into Northwich from Liverpool. Two of the men have since been charged while the third man has been released on conditional bail.
Then on Tuesday 19 September, officers from the local Beat Team arrested a man following a series of stop checks in the Danefield Road area.
The 47-year-old local man has since been charged with possession with intent to supply class A drugs (cocaine).
Detective Sergeant John Lyons added:
“As these incidents demonstrate, we will act upon intelligence provided to us and I would encourage residents who have concerns about this type of harmful activity in their community to come forward to police with any information they have.”
You can report suspected illegal drug activity to Cheshire Constabulary directly by calling 101.
