David Lewis expands a successful work experience programme for individuals with complex needs in partnership with local businesses, AstraZeneca and Sodexo.
Based in Cheshire East, the charity offers a variety of services to support young people and adults with learning disabilities, epilepsy, and autism. Their person-centred approach aims to empower individuals to live independently and fulfil their potential, emphasising inclusivity and well-being through innovative programmes and collaborative partnerships.
The programme is designed with the goal of boosting participants' employability, building their confidence, and promoting inclusivity through tailored work experience opportunities. By offering hands-on placements in a variety of sectors, including with leading food and FM services provider Sodexo at AstraZeneca’s Macclesfield Campus, the programme aims to equip individuals with the skills and experiences necessary for success in the professional world.
Through personalised support and mentorship, the initiative broadens the career prospects of students and adults supported by David Lewis. While instilling a sense of accomplishment and self-assurance as they progress in their professional journeys.
Participants who have already completed the programme have successfully transitioned into paid employment, having gained valuable skills from their placements. The programme, designed to offer students and residents the opportunity to grow personally and professionally, has been a resounding success, benefiting both the participants and the partnering businesses.
Alison Quick, global account director at Sodexo, said:
"Sodexo is committed to breaking down barriers to employment and we have been delighted to support this programme alongside our client AstraZeneca. It has been a seamless and rewarding experience for both the participants and our team at AstraZeneca’s Macclesfield campus. Witnessing the personal and professional growth of the individuals involved demonstrates the positive impact programmes like this can have, and for us it has enriched our business and brought new perspectives and diversity to our workplace."
Commenting on the success of the programme, John Heritage, Chief Executive of David Lewis, stated:
“The success of this initiative speaks to the dedication of everyone involved in creating meaningful opportunities for individuals with diverse needs. We are determined to build on this success and expand the programme further.
The opportunity to work with AstraZeneca and Sodexo has been incredibly rewarding. We look forward to partnering with more businesses in the future to create more employment opportunities for the people we support."
