Stretton Watermill will be holding its memorable, fun, family-friendly annual celebration of the apple harvest on 24th & 25 September.
Stretton Watermill is one of the country’s best-preserved working water-powered cornmills and a ‘gem’ of Cheshire. On 24-25 September, it will be holding its memorable, fun, family-friendly annual celebration of the apple harvest. This will take place from 12-5pm in its idyllic rural location at Mill Lane, Stretton, near Farndon. The event is free and so is the parking and there is also plenty of space for picnics.

The weekend’s events will include seasonal Victorian crafts, food displays, music and apple pressing (visitors are encouraged to bring their own apples to press). Chris Hocking will also be present with his extraordinary selection of vintage bicycles. Visitors can also learn about the history of this ancient mill, that dates from 1630 before joining a miller for a tour of the mill, including the picturesque mill pond.
This is the last event at Stretton Watermill until it closes for the year. It will reopen in April 2023* each weekend until September (1-5pm) and between May to August, the opening times will be extended to include Friday and Saturday (1-5pm). Regular children’s activities are held during these opening times, as well as a variety of events. It is a 'cash-only' site.
Councillor Louise Gittins, Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council said: “Stretton Watermills’ Victorian Harvest Festival is a memorable and evocative celebration of autumn in a timeless rural location. There will be much to delight the senses from the smell of apples being crushed and to the chance to taste some Victorian-themed food, to children enjoying the chance to create new things with the craft activities. There will also be music and the chance to see some wonderful vintage bicycles in action. I hope this delightful, free event will attract families for a lovely afternoon out.”
Stretton Watermill is located at Mill Lane, Stretton (near Farndon), SY14 7HS. It is owned and run by West Cheshire and Chester Council.
