Residents in Handforth have benefitted from an enhancement to their CCTV system, supported by the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Community Cashback Fund.
The Community Cashback Fund sees money seized from criminals through the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) reinvested into the local area, with residents having their say on how it is spent.
Handforth Town Council applied for the funding to secure an ANPR camera and to link some of the existing CCTV cameras at Meriton Road Park to the network, enabling all of the footage to be recorded and viewed on one system.
The Council believes having the cameras all on the same network will reduce incidents of anti-social behaviour and enable officers to view and use the footage as another means of investigation into crimes.
Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, John Dwyer said:
“CCTV can often be a deterrent for those thinking of committing a crime. It was great to see the cameras in action and hearing the positive impact they’ve already had on the community, especially when it’s come to investigating crime and apprehending perpetrators.
“My Community Cashback Fund is all about local residents and agencies working together with their local policing team, and this makes tackling anti-social behaviour and criminal activity much more achievable.”
Chair of Handforth Town Council, Councillor Susan Moore said:
“Handforth Town Councillors welcomed a visit from Commissioner John Dwyer to see the extension and improvements made to the Town Council CCTV system. This extra investment came about using funds from the Commissioner’s Community Cashback Fund and has already proved useful in the detection and prevention of criminal activity in Handforth.
“This is just another step in the Town Council’s ongoing commitment to work with the police in tackling crime in Handforth.”
