Macclesfield MP, David Rutley, is urging local residents to have their say on the future of Poynton Leisure Centre as part of Cheshire East Council’s Strategic Leisure Review consultation.
Last month, David set out his strong opposition to proposals from Cheshire East Council which could lead to the closure of Poynton Leisure Centre. David has heard strong concerns being raised about these proposals from many local residents, community groups, Poynton councillors and Poynton Town Council, all of whom have highlighted the need to keep the leisure centre open.
In response to these proposals, David wrote to Mr David Parr, interim Chief Executive of Cheshire East Council and has met with a number of key Cheshire East Councillors and Thomas Barton, Chief Executive of Everybody Health & Leisure. He is also seeking to meet with the Interim Director of Environment and Neighbourhoods at Cheshire East Council to discuss this matter further, as a priority.
The Strategic Leisure Review consultation is now live. David is asking local residents to make their views known and show their support for keeping the leisure centre open. He has already submitted a response to the consultation, setting out local opposition to any potential closure of the leisure centre. The consultation can be completed, using the following link:

Residents have until the 7th January 2024 to submit a comment.
Speaking on this important local issue, David said:
“I have been actively campaigning against proposals that could lead to the closure of Poynton Leisure Centre. The services provided by the leisure centre are clearly in demand at this much-valued community asset. Local residents now have the chance to formally submit their concerns as part of the consultation process. It is vital that as many people as possible now show their support, so we can save Poynton Leisure Centre.”
