Knutsford Heritage Centre is hoping to raise enough funds to commission local sculpture Andy Burgess to create a life size sculpture of King Canute.
The much-loved King Street based centre is already home to ‘The Green Man,’ a selection of May Day crowns and memorabilia and wants to add the sculpture to its attractions. Val Bryant the centre’s manager said, “We are home to a small but interesting exhibition hall filled with all things Knutsford related but having a sculpture of King Canute would be the icing on the (May Day) crown!”
The centre is already raising funds via a private tour and talk by Lord Ashbrook of Arley Hall on May 10th, with tickets available via the centre at £25 per person but any further donations would be welcome. The centre is open Friday and Saturday’s from 11am for anyone who wishes to donate, no matter how small. Val Bryant continued, “We know things are difficult for many at present, but all donations are welcome. We know this sculpture will be a real draw to the centre and help tourism and footfall in our town centre. This all helps to keep our market town alive”
The centre has also set up a Go Fund Me page.
